Bushfire suspect Ron Philpott on A Current Affair

May 8th, 2009 by Rose

Those of you who know me well will know my thoughts on the two current affair programs, Today Tonight and A Current Affair, their stories are beat ups, they are like drunken laywers chasing after the ambulance. And so it was only a matter of time before one of them got their hands on Marysvilles bushfire suspect Ron Philpott.

Like vultures to the carcass to feast, it was obvious before anything even started that the lie detector test would need to be inconclusive if it were to satisfy the requirements of their legal team, given this man is a suspect and all…

My own opinions are that the detector test was a farce, the detector monitors how the persons heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and electro-dermal activity (sweatiness etc) change in comparison to normal levels. None of these are affected by body movements, which in itself is something the detector monitors as seperate altogether.

I really feel for this bloke, for a few reasons – its obvious the guy has had a hard life. You can tell just by looking at him, there is nothing particularly soft or delicate about the man. His use of classic Australian language didnt help him in his original interview shown on Ten news when he described the fire as We got a good one ere, to quickly correct himself to say Bad, I mean bad.

Personally I feel if the police had enough evidence to suspect this man then he would have been arrested as he would be a danger and menace to society. A killer. Under Australias anti-terrorism laws he could have been hauled in for both his own protection, and ours.

I have no doubt he may have been a suspect, as those who tend to keep to themselves tend to end up being the ones who did it, but this guy is just being pulled deeper and deeper into the cess pit that is the unnatural world of the media. Something I have witnessed first hand after the event of the bushfires.

So before you take the side of the media and mark this man as accused, have a closer look at the track record of A Current Affairs, a show that has proven over and over again they are vultures who work like Satan in providing half-truths to people who think everything they see on TV is true…

Calculating the amount of time…

April 3rd, 2008 by Rose

I upgraded to Vista a few months ago, for the most part it’s pretty good. Though I have been really annoyed at this ‘Calculating the amount of time’ rubbish I have to endure when wanting to move, delete or copy files. When you are dealing with a lot of data this time wasting event makes me want to poke the person who came up with it in the eye.

Just move the file already! Delete the file already! Who cares how long it takes, just do it!

On top that what annoys me even more is when it goes through this mindless motion (some time later) it says ‘you don’t have permission to perform this’ arghhhh!!

The IE Factor in 2008

February 2nd, 2008 by Rose

While searching for a fix on Google for a problem where IE had decided it didn’t want to display the numbers for my ordered list… (now there’s a suprise)… I came across this well written blog entry on the IE Factor by StopDesign.

As I read aloud to my partner who is a programmer, I was nodding my head in agreement, this guy was putting into words all my frustrations about IE and Microsoft in general.

Then… I got to bottom of the page and discovered the post had been written in……. 2004!!!

4 years later and Microsoft are STILL just as terrible to program html & css for…

StopDesign were not wrong when they said that IE bugs were responsible for a 10% increase on quotes for online projects!

Maybe I should start displaying that surcharge on my clients invoices, too many of those being pointed out in dollar signs might just be enough to give Microsoft the kick up the bum it deserves… do I believe that? No.

Van Tuong Nguyen

Van Tuong Nguyen

Van has just 10 hours to live. I hope people will spare some thoughts, prayers and mediations for his soul as it leaves his body at 6am Singapore time Friday 2nd December 2005.

I don’t agree with what he did, nor that he shouldn’t be punished – but that he should lose his life is just awful. How can we justify saying it is wrong to kill, and then go and kill someone and say it is legal.

Awful.

Killing in the name of…

August 19th, 2005 by Rose

Non-Australian readers will no doubt have no clue about this case, but it is one that has captured the hearts of Australians and the headlines of newspapers for many months now.

Some time ago Maria Korp was found near dead after being strangled and left in the boot of her car in Melbourne city. She lay in coma for months and his lover Tania Herman has been convicted and sentenced to nine years jail after pleading guilty to the attempted murder of Mrs Korp. Joe Korp was yet to have been sentenced.

A few weeks ago, authorities decided to remove Maria’s life support after it was clear she was never going to recover – after about two weeks it was expected she would die.

Joe Korp applied to the Court to be able to see Maria before she passed away and the visit was granted.

After the death of Maria Korp, it is understood Joe Korp was only a few weeks away from being charged with murder.

On the day of Maria Korps funeral, Joe Korp hung himself in the garden shed of his home.

Days later and it has become public that his brother Gust Korp knew of his brothers motives and had approached a number of TV stations attempting to sell the story to them and exclusive interviews with Joe before he killed himself.

They declined.

Instead Gust helped his brother make a last video, which alledgedly Joe had asked him to sell after he was gone for a profit to go to his family.

A Supreme Court judge this week made a ruling allowing the release of the video to the Korp family, which Gust Korp was trying to sell to the highest bidder. He wanted the Court order because he felt if he waited too long to try sell it, the case would have lost public interest and not be worth anything.

But the controversial tape, along with a diary penned by Joe Korp, were seized by the State Coroner.

The police have since seized the video as evidence and Gust Korp’s controversial actions will form part of the brief that will go before the Coroner.

It’s the kind of thing you read about in a suspense novel or watch as a film. I can’t fathom first of all how someone in this day and age, feel the need to KILL their spouse so they can continue a relationship with someone else, then do a complete turn around and want to see her on her death bed and kill themselves claiming it was ’so Maria and I can be together again’.

On top of that the brother knew about his plan to kill himself and gave his blessing! Even sought to profit financially from the death of his own brother.

What a world we live in! Poor Maria, lost her life in such an awful way. At least she is in good Hands now.

Ipswich Buses

July 29th, 2005 by Rose

It’s so nice to know Ipswich Buses drivers have our safety first… (not!)

When I told the driver of the bus on the way home that there was a lot of clunking noises coming from under the wheel arch up the back (it *really* didn’t sound good – in fact I wondered if there was anything much still holding those wheels on!); her reply was “Oh well, I’ll worry about that when it breaks down”.

Mmm…

Customer Un-Service

June 21st, 2005 by Rose

I’ve decided the only way to retain my sanity it to change my thinking.

From now on I am not going to expect a basic level of customer service from any company I deal with.

I’m sick of being told someone will call me back – and they don’t (and having it happen over the course of a number of days); explaining my issue to someone on the phone only to have them blind transfer me to someone who has nothing to do with resolving my problem; being told a service will be expected in a certain time and have it go way overtime with not even so much as a courtesy call… the ironic thing is, that if you didn’t pay them on time – they would be after you without a moments hesitation.

The sad thing is, you can’t even change companies these days, because they are all as bad as each other. You could complain until the cows come home and they still wouldn’t give a toss what your needs are as a customer or consumer.

I’ve made it my mission to create a comprehensive Customer Service Charter for our company to ensure that at the very least, our customers will not have to be exposed to the disgusting level of service other companies impart onto PAYING customers.
