Killing in the name of…
August 19th, 2005 by RoseNon-Australian readers will no doubt have no clue about this case, but it is one that has captured the hearts of Australians and the headlines of newspapers for many months now.
Some time ago Maria Korp was found near dead after being strangled and left in the boot of her car in Melbourne city. She lay in coma for months and his lover Tania Herman has been convicted and sentenced to nine years jail after pleading guilty to the attempted murder of Mrs Korp. Joe Korp was yet to have been sentenced.
A few weeks ago, authorities decided to remove Maria’s life support after it was clear she was never going to recover – after about two weeks it was expected she would die.
Joe Korp applied to the Court to be able to see Maria before she passed away and the visit was granted.
After the death of Maria Korp, it is understood Joe Korp was only a few weeks away from being charged with murder.
On the day of Maria Korps funeral, Joe Korp hung himself in the garden shed of his home.
Days later and it has become public that his brother Gust Korp knew of his brothers motives and had approached a number of TV stations attempting to sell the story to them and exclusive interviews with Joe before he killed himself.
They declined.
Instead Gust helped his brother make a last video, which alledgedly Joe had asked him to sell after he was gone for a profit to go to his family.
A Supreme Court judge this week made a ruling allowing the release of the video to the Korp family, which Gust Korp was trying to sell to the highest bidder. He wanted the Court order because he felt if he waited too long to try sell it, the case would have lost public interest and not be worth anything.
But the controversial tape, along with a diary penned by Joe Korp, were seized by the State Coroner.
The police have since seized the video as evidence and Gust Korp’s controversial actions will form part of the brief that will go before the Coroner.

It’s the kind of thing you read about in a suspense novel or watch as a film. I can’t fathom first of all how someone in this day and age, feel the need to KILL their spouse so they can continue a relationship with someone else, then do a complete turn around and want to see her on her death bed and kill themselves claiming it was ’so Maria and I can be together again’.
On top of that the brother knew about his plan to kill himself and gave his blessing! Even sought to profit financially from the death of his own brother.
What a world we live in! Poor Maria, lost her life in such an awful way. At least she is in good Hands now.
Spain 2005
August 10th, 2005 by RoseMy trip to Spain was awesome. I had a really great time. The sun was lovely and warm, the skies blue. It was quite hot, around 40C most days. I enjoyed the heat though.
Rough details of the trip:
Monday: Arrived at Madrid airport, caught a taxi and got duped into paying too much. Silly me being a newbie tourist. I learnt my lesson though! I meet up with my buddy Tanya and two of her American friends and we go for a wander up and down the street. Sit at a bar and drink lemonades while watching the people pass.
Dinner is at Pizza Hut, Spanish style.
Tuesday: Catch a taxi into Madrid city centre. Hang out at the Plaza Mayor and buy ourselves a two day pass on the Madrid Vision buses. We visit the Royal Palace and wander about the town. Dinner is at the Plaza Mayor.
Wednesday: More touring around the city of Madrid via the buses that tour 3 different routes of the city. Went to the park and relaxed. Book a tour which starts Friday for the day.
Thursday: Hung around the hotel and slept in till late, was fabulous. Caught the bus into Madrid and wandered around some more.
Friday: Get up early and catch a cab into town. Meet up for the tour which will take us to Avila and Segovia. Spend the day wandering around towns and visiting churches, monuments and a castle. Fabulous weather and get to see some sights outside of Madrid, the hills and mountains.
Saturday: Sleep in late and head into Madrid again to hang out.
Sunday: Caught the bus into Madrid for the weekly market. The place is jammed packed. We keep our bags close and in front of us. Neither of us want to lose our money. Head back to the hotel for siesta then catch a bus back into town for dinner at the Plaza Mayor, this time at a different resteraunt.
Monday: Get up early, it’s my last day. Brekky at the hotel and then catch a cab to the airport. Driver tries to stooge me again for too much money but this time I am onto it. I still let him off with a few extra euros, it wasn’t worth it to argue the point too much *grin* Catch the place back to the UK to be met at the airport by Steve.
Here are my 3 fav pics from the trip.

Broken
August 10th, 2005 by RoseI’ve found my new favourite song.
Car Stereo Wars
Broken
Soft fading light
And on the street below
the people come and go
and the traffic rushes by and then the lights turn red
Cold now and it is getting late
And people look at their watches
As they wait for the bus
And there’s a man with no gloves and he blows on his fingers
And it gets dark so fast for such a long day
And the room is quiet and starts to fade away
Just the smell of cigarettes
And only one broken glass
And you would never guess
I have climbed up to the top of the tallest tree
And no one knows I’m here
And I could hide for hours and hours
And I can see for miles
And I have never fallen
And I will not come down
And the sun is shining
Downstairs someone is getting home
And the door slams
And running footsteps on the floor
And a stereo starts up
And they are laughing
And I can hear them talking
But I can’t quite make it out
And I wonder what their saying and
What they can find to talk about
And I wonder why he stays
And why he hasn’t walked out
I have climbed up to the top of the tallest tree
And no one knows I’m here
And I could hide for hours and hours
And I can see for miles
And I have never fallen
And I will not come down
And the sun is shining
